Living abroad in a different country has been one of the most terrifying yet one of the most amazing learning experience a person could ever get. When I was 5 years old, my family and I packed up our house and moved to Cambridge, England.
While I was there I had the pleasure of attaining a British accent. I used my fork with my right hand and not my left. I never slouched. And I always said please and thank you. My parents were pleasantly surprised that their five your old daughter was acting fifteen. Besides the fact that the culture in our life changed a little, I learned so much in the two years there, and I was only a little girl.
Growing up in England I attended a Catholic school, although I am Hindu. Being raised this way, growing up where I was able to experience different religions and cultures, has changed the way on how I view the world today. So many people are subjected to one religion and believe that only one is right. I got o experience a whole new culture and religion, and I still feel blessed that my parents saw fit that this was the best way to learn about the similarities in cultures around the world.
On the more fun and entertaining side of things, I got to go on the London Eye (which is how I got my fear of heights). I got to see platform 9 3/4, which probably explains why I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan.
Shifting from the expat point of view to a tourist point of view, there are so many amazing things that make England a great place to see. As an avid golfer, some of the very first golf courses ever built are found in England. There are so many tours that one could go on when it comes to touring the palace, and there are some really great shopping centers in all the major cities.
The common perception of England is that it can be a pretty boring and uncultured place, however; look underneath the famous fish and chips and there can be some pretty large amounts of history within all the twists and corners of England's curvy roads.
GUESS THE NEXT.....where you can literally see the pollution in the air.
I just got to take a look at your blog for the first time and I love the background, it's so great and matches so well with your topic! It seems that you have traveled a significant amount in your life and I think that it has given you a very broad view of the world, which I believe is very beneficial. You connected very well with your audience. Great response Ashni!
ReplyDeleteI am grateful to have been raised in a very diverse community, so I can relate to the value of being able to "experience different religions and cultures." This blog post was short, sweet, and to the point. I'm glad you shared this story!
ReplyDeleteReading about your travels was really interesting, and I love how diverse all of your experiences have been.
